Uncertain parentage, but some suspect the chance seedling can be traced to Golden Reinette and Grimes Golden. Introduced to market in 1914 from Clay County, West Virginia. The flavor of Golden Delicious apples is exceptional and has an extended shelf life. The lightly textured, green/gold skin protects the crisp interior and helps retain its sweet juiciness. Skin is tender without a trace of bitterness. Exceptionally good in storage. For in-hand eating, sauces, pies, and apple butter. Partially self-fruitful. Yields may be increased with pollinator of Fuji, Red Delicious, Gala, Granny Smith, or crabapple. |
