Discovered as a chance seedling on an Iowa farm, the variety was originally known as Hawkeye. Introduced to market in 1874. The heart-shaped fruit is bright red and sometimes striped. Crunchy with a mildly sweet flavor, Reds are also great in salads. Self-unfruitful and requires a pollinator of a different variety. Use Fuji, Golden Delicious, Gala, Granny Smith, or crabapple
