Fruitless Mulberry

Fruitless Mulberry is a hardy, deciduous tree with a fast growth rate and coarse texture. It is usually single-trunked with an ashy-orange bark turning darker brown as it matures. Foliage size and shape is extremely variable. Some foliage will have distinct lobes and some will not. The species originates from China where its leaves were used as food for silk worms. It provides fairly heavy shade because of the dense canopy and often has surface roots. It will tolerate a broad range of soils and is drought-tolerant, though it grows best in moist, well-drained soils.
